Ricky von Peroh (IMP GER)

Ricky von Peroh, known affectionately as Rio, is another of our selected foundation bitches. Purchased on a buying trip to Europe, where we assessed a vast number of dogs. Rio was chosen alongside Cajouh as the top picks for the qualities we place the highest value on in a working German Shepherd: exceptional environmental nerves, strong natural drives, stability under pressure and as an amazing added bonus - the ability to live as a genuine family guardian outside of work. Rio is handled by Frank’s teenage daughter a credit to how much we trust her clear head despite intense drive.

Rio is bred from Iceman vom Großen Ex × Fly von Peroh — the Iceman × Fly combination itself has been repeatedly used to produce dogs that have gone on to be evaluated, titled and utilised in working homes. This is a combination we were particularly interested in bringing into our program because it brings together proven working genetics with the temperament and stability we require in our breeding dogs.

 

Rio has exceptional environmental confidence. She is comfortable in challenging environments and possesses the type of natural environmental nerve that we believe is essential in a serious working dog. Her prey drive and aggression are equally impressive. Rio demonstrates strong, natural engagement with the work, with the confidence, intensity and commitment we look for in dogs intended to produce capable protection and service dogs.

 

What makes Rio particularly valuable, however, is the balance between her working temperament and her stability in everyday life. She is an exceptionally stable family dog — clear-headed, confident and able to switch off when she isn't working.

Rio's greatest validation as a breeding female is now coming through her progeny. Her first litters have produced a number of operational police and corrections dogs, with her offspring going on to demonstrate the qualities required for demanding real-world service work. After giving her a substantial break from breeding duties, we look forward to breeding her again in 2027.

 

This is exactly what we want to see from our breeding program: not simply dogs that look the part or perform well in a controlled training environment, but dogs capable of carrying their genetics into real operational roles.

 

We have continued to evaluate Rio through controlled hidden-sleeve and bitework scenarios, allowing us to confirm the qualities that matter to us as breeders — her prey drive, aggression, environmental confidence, engagement and overall working temperament.

 

These assessments, combined with what we see in Rio herself and, most importantly, in her offspring, give us continued confidence in the genetic value she brings to Madeo Built.
